Suncadia - Roslyn, Washington
Prospector Inn
A timber frame Porte Cochere
welcomes visitors to the Prospector Inn
at the Suncadia Recreation Community.
Timber framing is ideally suited to the mountain style architecture
envisioned by the developers of Suncadia, an exciting new resort
community in the eastern foothills of the Cascade Mountains.

Timbercraft also designed one of the first private residences
to be built in Suncadia. By working closely with the Suncadia
Design Review Committee Timbercraft architects and designers
arrived at design solutions that met the client's needs, are
attractive and complied with the exacting CC&Rs of the development.

Orcas Island
Architect: Opsis Architecture, Portland Oregon
A timber frame roof system for this Orcas Island house covers
the 1100 square foot open space that includes a large living/dining
room, a covered outdoor room and the master bedroom suite.
Some of the unique features of the Orcas frame are natural
log posts and the prominent curve on the bottom chord of the eight king
post trusses. Three separate timbers, carefully joined together, form each chord.

Buttercup Court
Frame for Buttercup Court Raised - July 2005.
Having purchased property in the new Suncadia residential resort community
in Eastern Washington, our clients wanted a weekend getaway that would serve
both as a quiet respite from their busy law practices as well as a base camp
for their myriad outdoor interests.
Nestled among the ponderosa pines native
to the Cascade Mountains, this simple vernacular home applies a craftsman
aesthetic to National Park cabin architecture.
A timber framed breezeway offers hints as to the building’s structure, and
oversized cedar drop siding, cedar shakes and a standing seam metal roof complete
the exterior.
It is not a large house at 2,400 square feet but the Great Room
imbues a sense of spaciousness and drama due to a surprisingly high ceiling and
a pair of 19th century Howe trusses that flank a second floor catwalk.

Timber Frame Raising in Buckley WA
Large, peeled-log timbers, rugged stone chimneys and a spectacular view of the
Olympic Mountains contribute to the lodge-like feeling of this house. The symmetrical
plan features a central great room with two angled wings forming welcoming "arms"
around a central entry porch. One wing contains the master bedroom. The guest bedrooms,
primarily used by the family's college age children, are located in the opposing wing,
A garage, tucked under the house takes advantage of the steep slope.
|
|
Cedar trees from the owners' property were hand selected for use as exterior porch
posts. Native, wild, cedar posts make the entrance truly unique. The raw logs were
peeled and routed in Timbercraft's shop. |
|
This house is of "hybrid" construction. Only the great room and the porches are
timber framed. The walls and roofs of both wings will be built with conventional
stud framing.
|
|
The house, designed and engineered by Timbercraft, will be built by the owners
who are acting as the general contractors and providing much of the labor for the
project themselves. This strategy will help to keep the overall construction costs
for the project relatively modest.

If you live in Seattle where it is apt to rain on your parade or your family reunion, you might consider
installing an outdoor pavilion like this one Timbercraft recently designed for a local family. This outdoor
shelter has built-in kitchen / barbeque facilities and bathroom, and there is still plenty of room to boogie.

Whidbey Island Residence, WA |
Project Designed by
the Timbercraft Design Team |
|
Timbercraft designers developed the design for this 5,000 sq. ft. home with the owners.
We recently received this e-mail from the owner:
"We are absolutely loving our new timber-frame home! It is coming along beautifully and is the
envy of the neighborhood.
"By the way, the Custom Home Specialist with Tiz Doors out of Everett
was out finalizing the door plan with me yesterday. He shared that he has been in over 600
upper-level, custom homes. Without a doubt, he explained, our home was absolutely the most
primo home that he has visited. He was in awe of the construction of the Great Room.

"Le Chateau du Reve is blossoming and it is beautiful. We found a local artist to carve those exact
words in the great timber that separates the Great Room from the dining room. It is our thumbprint
on a dwelling that will long out live us!
Thank you, Judi"
